Dr. Shyu is a full-time professor in the Department of Music and serves as the dean of the College of Arts at Fu-Jen University.
After graduating from the Music Department of National Taiwan Normal University, she went to study at the Institute of Musicology of the University of Hamburg in Germany. She received PhD, majoring in systematic musicology and minoring in historical musicology and sociology. Research topics range from the development of Western opera and music aesthetics to music criticism, etc. She also has long-term attention to Taiwanese issues, covering the development of popular music, the relationship between Taiwanese music education and social changes, and the study of contemporary Taiwanese composers. She has published relevant academic papers and books. In 2008, She edited “The Taiwan Music Encyclopedia Dictionary, was the chief editor of "Popular," and assisted in the planning of "Contemporary," writing more than a hundred articles in total. Research cases of the National Science and Technology Council include Shi Hsu, record companies, Lu Chuansheng's early choir scores, Chen Suti and banned songs, etc.; National Center for Traditional Arts "Taiwan Music Yearbook" 2018-2022, host of the "Popular Music" sub-project, and "Observation and Commentary on Popular Music Activities” Writer. She also actively curates special exhibitions of important figures in Taiwan's art and literary circles, such as Wen Xia, Li Xing, Shi Hsu, Mei Dai, and Chen Suti. She is a scholar who has done both research and practice.
